Great quality entry level, no frills sound bar

I purchased this Sony to supplement the sound on a 46" Panasonic Plasma. Overall, I'm very pleased, and it greatly improves the sound quality, adding ample surround effects for regular tv viewing and watching movies on blu-ray. Here are some general observations that may help you decide if this is the unit for you:
Pros:
* Stylish, compact and the cloth-covered bar looks exactly like higher-end Sony sound bars.
* Small remote offers treble, bass, and sound controls and will also let you change channels on a Sony television. (ours works perfectly, unlike some other's experiences)
* Volume can be turned all the way up without distortion (it's only 60 watts).
* Surround sound adds much more realism than built-in tv audio.
* Subwoofer adds a nice amount of base.
* Includes three cables: optical, digital coaxial, and rca types.
Cons:
* 60 watts (15L+15R+30sub) is fine for watching TV, but if you want to use it for music and love it loud, you'll probably want more watts.
* Remote has many buttons for controlling the tv, but only works on Sony's.
* Optical cable is very short and pretty cheap. You may opt for a better quality one.
* Treble, bass, and volume LEDs blink once for each step up or down, and then all three blink when each control has reached its minimum or maximum. But you never know where you are inbetween; and the unit resets to the default each time you power off/on. (You can pay for more precise controls and digital readouts in the higher end models.)
* Does not have a setting to automatically turn on with the tv.

Great Value, Reasonable Surround Sound and Feature Rich

I normally purchase my electronics on Amazon, but I saw this at Target for less than it's selling here, so it was an impulse buy. Sony must have read my mind, because they finally built *exactly* the inexpensive soundbar I was looking for; in particular, one that does the following:
1. Multiple, digital inputs (optical and coax) for my Apple TV and Blu-ray player, respectively;
2. Analog RCA input for my receiver for outputting Internet radio, et al.;
3. Dolby Digital decoder built-in w/ virtual surround (that also works with 2-channel analog encoded w/ Dolby Pro Logic)
4. Small Sub-woofer w/ adjustable bass level (on the remote)
5. Remote for volume and input switching (that allows all three types to be connected at the same time - many lower-end sound bars won't switch, but will default to one if more than one physical connection is made - e.g., Bose)
Believe it or not, I couldn't find a sound bar that met all of the above for anything close to what I paid for the Sony HT-CT60.
Previous reviewers have knocked the bass output and the remote. For me, the remote is perfect (handles power on/off, volume and switching between inputs, as well as enable/disable the Dolby Surround function). The Bass and Treble are separately adjustable from 1-10 and you can tune the bass to be as subtle as you like.
Finally, I was expecting very little from the sound quality and the surround experience. In both cases, for TV and Movies, I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. Again, your milage may vary, but I was surprised at the surround effects - it does a nice job of separating music in TV/movies and creating a virtual surround field with the dialog nicely centered. Again, you have to temper your expectations - it's nothing like a real A/V receiver with 5.1 physical speakers, but I watched Star Wars Episode III with it and enjoyed the results.
For roughly $100.00 I can't think of a better value for a secondary TV's sound output, or even a primary TV if you don't want to fuss with an A/V receiver.

Not bad, not great. Inexpensive. One gripe

Bought this at Costco for less than $115. They had it setup and it sounded better at 60W than the Samsung HW-E450C 280W for $215 right next to it. Sounds good in our living room with plenty of power for what we do (replaces an old 55W Sanyo Stereo), but still working on finding the right volume/bass/treble mix.
First of all it comes with both the optical and coaxial digital cables (box even only lists the optical). The optical cable is pretty basic and I ended up upgrading to a better one the next day. The subwoofer is not wireless but needs to be plugged into the bar (again not well documented). The bass and treble have no readout where you are between 0-10 until you get to 10 when it flashes. Remote only will control Sony TV's. I took off the feet to sit on an under-TV stand and the octagonal shape changes the orientation of the speakers relative to horizontal. I finally ended up setting it on the side where the speakers point down slightly so that I can also view the input and surround sound lights. Has a nighttime setting where you can disable the subwoofer if desired which is a nice feature.
My biggest gripe is (and nowhere in the product info is it even mentioned) it has a power save feature where after a certain amount of inactivity, it powers off. Haven't timed how long it is, but it is definitely less than 1 hour and likely less than 30mins. No way to turn this feature off. Know this going into it that you're going to need to turn it on anytime you want to use it (unless you play music 24/7 to scare away burglers). So keep those bathroom breaks short with the video on pause!
